Here we are heading up into the forest. Everyone is helping to carry and it is such a beautiful morning! It was 53F when we got up into the forest.

Reliable Red Squirrel helped carry up a shovel and a gallon of water to the forest. It was heavy. Lots of people helped carry tools and water.

At morning meeting we share what we notice is different. One thing we noticed was what the leaves looked like above us.

Bright Blue Bird is digging out the fire pit. We wanted to clear out some of the extra coals so our fires would be safe. We also raked away all the leaves and pine needles all around the pit.

Brave Barred Owl hauled away the extra coals to our coal pile.

After cleared out the fire pit we started a fire using mouse tails, chickadee sticks and beaver logs. Then we popped popcorn over the flames.

During stations with Miss Thomas we made number collections with nature. We played "Show Me" where we had to show the number Miss Thomas called out. Like in this picture Dependable Deer shows 8.

Bright Blue Bird made 10, using 5 and 5. This reminds us of a tool we use inside for math called a number rack.

Here’s another example.

In Mrs. Minnucci’s station Brave Barred Owl and Sincere Salamander were partners. The guide led the blindfolded student to a tree, where he had to feel the tree, and then after being led back to the starting point, take off the blindfold and try to find his tree again. We are practicing using different senses.

Here Sweet Snowy Owl meets her tree and gets to know it with her hands. Not only were we practicing isolating and using different senses, we were also practicing being good partners. There was a lot of really nice partner work in the woods today.

Today was the first day we stayed outside all the way through lunch. Today many of us decided to use the benches as tables and had a nice picnic. We were out until 1pm and really enjoyed the weather and the chance to cooperate, explore, learn and run! in the woods.
